Where AmazonNow Ranks in UAE Q-Commerce

Hi, it’s Wassim Berro from Burger Index

On this week’s BI Insights, Amazon Now is officially on everyone’s radar in GCC Q-commerce, but where does it rank in the UAE across assortment, pricing and promotions against veterans like Talabat Mart, Noon Minutes, Carrefour, Lulu and others?

We break it down using January 2026 data extracted from Burger Index. We have condensed the report for the sake of your inbox but you can reply “Amazon” to this email to get the full category-level report.

🛒 Product Assortment: Amazon Trails the Big Players

Despite its scale in retail, Amazon Now currently ranks 7th in UAE q-commerce by total product count. It only outpaces Viva's entirely white label portfolio.

In Personal Care, Vegetables, Beauty, Pantry and Beverages (based on Burger Index’s standardised category taxonomy) Amazon’s SKU count is 40–65% lower than leaders like Lulu and Carrefour. For a player known for depth, Amazon is still early in scaling its local q-commerce catalog.

💸 Pricing: Premium in Some, Competitive in Others

Amazon Now’s pricing strategy is category-specific. It’s the most expensive player in Personal Care and among the highest in Beverages. In Beauty, it prices well below Lulu’s premium mix but still above value-driven platforms like Talabat or Viva.

In Pantry and Vegetables, Amazon hovers near the average, suggesting a balanced positioning: not the cheapest, not premium, but aiming for the middle.

🧾 Promotions: Active but Not Leading

Amazon is active in running promotions, with hundreds of SKUs discounted in each major category. But it consistently ranks behind Talabat and Lulu in raw promo count.

What’s notable is the spread, Amazon promotes broadly across categories, signaling a focus on consistent value exposure rather than tactical pushes in narrow verticals.

📉 Discount Depth: Measured vs Aggressive

While Amazon promotes widely, its average discount percentage is lower than the competition. Choithrams, Lulu, and Carrefour are all offering significantly deeper cuts, often 30%+, while Amazon averages closer to 18-26% across most categories.

🔍 Final Insight

Amazon Now is still scaling. Its smaller assortment and moderate pricing/promo strategy suggest it’s playing the long game, likely betting on delivery reliability and ecosystem lock-in.

The question for 2026: will it ramp up assortment and discounting to win share, or double down on convenience and loyalty?
