How to Actually Compare Coffee Prices Across Delivery Platforms

Hi it's Wassim from Burger Index,

On this week’s BI Insights, we looked at coffee pricing across delivery platforms from a restaurant and operator perspective.

The biggest challenge when tracking competitor pricing is product matching.

Which of your products are you actually comparing to theirs?
Names differ. Sizes differ. Formats differ.

In this analysis we matched coffee products by size and taxonomy across Costa Coffee, Dunkin', Half Million, The Coffee Address and Starbucks on HungerStation and Jahez in KSA.

1. Organise all coffee products by size

We start by grouping all coffee SKUs across brands and branches into standard sizes. This allows for like for like comparison across platforms, removing naming and format inconsistencies.

2. Compare Cappuccino Tall by brand

Focusing on a single size, we can see how different brands price the same product category.
Even within the same size, pricing varies significantly by brand, reflecting positioning rather than product differences.

3. Track Cappuccino pricing over time

Looking at the past 5 months, most brands maintain stable pricing.
Changes are isolated and brand specific, rather than market wide shifts.

What this means

This is how pricing actually needs to be tracked.

Match products correctly, group them into comparable formats, and review performance regularly.

In categories like coffee, small price gaps and isolated changes happen quietly, and new products are added continuously.

Without a structured view, these changes are easy to miss.

Burger Index brings this together by matching products and visualising pricing across platforms and locations, so teams can review competitor pricing weekly and stay on top of changes.
