GrabMart vs Pandamart: Comparing Unmatched Products

Hi, it's Wassim from Burger Index,

On this week’s BI Insights, we looked at how Grabmart and Pandamart compare in Singapore.

Grocery and q commerce teams are constantly trying to answer:

  • Where do we have assortment gaps vs competitors?

  • Which brands and categories are we under indexed in?

  • Are we more affordable on matched products?

These are simple questions. But in practice, a large share of products do not match across platforms due to brand, size and flavour. This makes comparison difficult.

To compare platforms properly, you need product matching for exact SKUs, and taxonomy and brand tagging to group comparable products when they don’t match.

Without this, it is not possible to understand affordability, coverage, or gaps across platforms. This is the layer most teams are missing, and what Burger Index solves.

Let’s get into it.

Product coverage

Both platforms operate at similar assortment scale, but only a small share of products overlap.

Product gaps: what Pandamart has that Grabmart doesn’t

Pandamart carries a large set of products not available on Grabmart and here we break them down by category.

Affordability: no consistent winner

Affordability shifts across matched products, with no clear platform advantage.

When comparing like for like SKUs, some products are cheaper on Grabmart, while others are cheaper on Pandamart.

Brand coverage: uneven distribution across platforms

Across key FMCG brands, some are heavily represented on one platform while being absent on the other.

What this means

Even when products do not match, comparisons are still possible.

A large share of the catalogue differs across platforms, making SKU level comparison incomplete.

But by grouping products through taxonomy and brand tagging, teams can still track:

  • affordability

  • product gaps

  • category level coverage

This is what allows consistent comparison, even when assortments are not aligned.

Burger Index applies this layer across platforms, so teams can compare like for like where possible, and fall back to structured groupings where it is not.
