Aggregators

All eyes on delivery times and fees

Hi it's Wassim from Burger Index,

For food and grocery delivery aggregators, speed and affordability often decide who wins the customer. In this week's newsletter we dive into delivery fee and delivery time data from leading aggregators in Chile.

Using Burger Index we can launch aggregator applications in 1000s of location pins in Santiago, simulating a user, and visualise store availability, ranking, delivery times and fees across PedidosYa and Rappi for the same restaurant brands.

From a customer perspective, it's clear both aggregators are competing on different value propositions (speed vs. price). Customers will choose based on their priority—speed (PedidosYa) or cost savings (Rappi)—for the same restaurant brands.

In terms of competitive differentiation one aggregator likely positions itself as a premium service with faster delivery, justifying higher fees while the other adopts a cost-leadership strategy, competing on affordability rather than efficiency.

By offering contrasting strengths, both aggregators carve out niches, but there are always opportunities for one to overlap into the other's strength to win a larger market share.

Strategic adjustments include PedidosYa experimenting with discounts to capture price-conscious segments while Rappi launched 'Rappi Turbo' for an additional subscription fee, to address delivery time-sensitive customers.

The competition underscores the importance of balancing speed and price and ofcourse keeping track of competition.
